Windsor police confirm death on Windermere

Police in Windsor have confirmed the death of a woman at a home in south Walkerville.

Officers were called shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday to a home on Windermere Rd. near Seneca St. on what was originally reported as a "trouble unknown" call. When they arrived, they found a woman in medical distress, according to WPS Sergeant Steve Betteridge.

A witness told BlackburnNewsWindsor.com that they were awakened by a heavy police presence in the area. Betteridge confirmed that the woman was pronounced dead around 4 a.m. at a local hospital.

The scene was contained and investigators from the Windsor Police Forensic Identification Unit remained on scene for much of Sunday.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death. The victim is not being identified until loved ones have been notified.

The investigation is ongoing.
