Body found in Detroit River was a man missing since November

After a Christmas without him, the family of Murray Banfill may finally have some closure.

Windsor police have identified a body found in the Detroit River on New Year's Day as Banfill. He was 72.

Banfill was last seen November 12. Soon after, police found some of his belongings in the area of Riverside Drive East and Strabane Avenue.

Police do not suspect foul play.

His body was found around 8 a.m.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
