Windsor police say a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle during the morning commute.
It happened just before 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Wyandotte Street East was closed between Pillette Road and Dawson Road, but has since reopened. The area was closed for about an hour and a half while police investigated.
Sergeant Steve Betteridge said the investigation is still in its early stages and he could not say how severe the victim's injuries are.
Rob Plant, the office manager at Imaginative Group. which has an office on Wyandotte Street, directly in front of where the collision took place, said he didn't witness the incident but noticed the police presence shortly after.
Plant said with all the foot traffic in the area, combined with the high volumes of traffic, he's not surprised something like this happened.
"I'm not surprised, I'm disappointed," said Plant. "We talk about it all the time, you can hear it even when you're downstairs in the office, somebody flying by."
The area is home to several small businesses, a Shopper's Drug Mart, McDonald's, Brennan High School, and several nearby apartments. Plant said he and his coworkers often see a combination of cars driving over the speed limit and pedestrians crossing at the wrong spots.
"We've been here for eight years in this location and it baffles me that no one's been hit or there have been no major accidents. I don't even know what to say, you see it all the time and you're just waiting for something to happen. You hear breaks and you just hope you're not hearing sirens after it. I guess today was one of those days," said Plant. "I hope the situation rectifies itself and the person is okay."
