Waste management workers avoid strike

Unifor Local 444 members employed at GFL Environmental have voted in favour of a three-year collective agreement.

According to Local 444 Unifor's Facebook page, 95.1 per cent voted in favour of the agreement.

This is the first contract Unifor has negotiated with GFL since the company was outsourced by the city for garbage pickup.

Negotiation talks had been going on for several weeks. In November, 78 per cent of workers voted in favour of a strike if necessary.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
