2019 Amherstburg property taxes expected to go up

The Town of Amherstburg is projecting a tax hike this year.

The total forecasted property tax increase is 1.93 per cent when you factor in the county and the school boards. That amounts to an extra $78 per year to the average home valued at $250,000.

Treasurer Justin Rousseau said the capital project demands for the year are approximately $38.6 million and are projected to more than $135 million over the next 10 years. He added there is a significant funding gap that needs to be addressed and the recommended tax levies will help to continue progress toward infrastructure renewal.

Public consultation on the budget is scheduled for February 2 at the Libro Centre. You can also leave comments on the town's online public forum.
