Laundry room fire causes $800K in damage

The cause of a blaze at a home on Menard Street that left a person in critical condition is being listed as accidental.

John Lee, the chief fire prevention officer with the Windsor Fire and Rescue Service, said the blaze on Menard Street near Martinique Avenue started Monday afternoon in the laundry room.

The total damage is estimated at around $800,000. That includes $600,000 in damage to the home and another $200,000 in damage to the contents and exposure to other houses.

The fire was the second on Menard Street in a matter of days. The previous Friday,  a townhouse on Menard near Riverdale Avenue, went up in flames, causing $75,000 in damage. An electrical fault caused that blaze. No injuries were reported.
