Windsor councillor is ERCA's new chairman

A Windsor city councillor is the new chairman of the local conservation authority.

Ward 7 Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk was announced as the new chairman of the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA), following a vote during ERCA's annual general meeting on Thursday.

Kusmierczyk has been on the ERCA board for the past five years and had served as vice-chairman in 2017 and 2018, according to a media release from ERCA. Tecumseh town Councillor Tania Jobin is the new vice-chair.

The new ERCA chairman has served on Windsor City Council since 2013, reelected to a second full term this past fall. He is the director of partnerships for WeTech Alliance, a regional innovation centre which provides support to the local technological and innovation sector. He holds a master's degree in government from the London School of Economics, specializing in local government and cross-border environmental relations in the Great Lakes area. He also has a PhD from Vanderbilt University.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
