Car theft reminds residents to lock it or lose it

With the bitter cold temperatures blanketing the region this week, you might be tempted to leave your car running as you run into a store for a minute or two, but police say do not do it.

Police in Windsor had to track down a stolen vehicle early Monday morning after the owner left the engine running with the keys in it on Ouellette Ave.

The driver only left it for five minutes, but that was enough time for a thief to take it.

Police found the Dodge Caliber 15 minutes later, around 2:45 a.m. in a parking lot on Division Road.

A suspect was arrested, and now 34-year-old Jeff Green is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property not exceeding $5,000.
