Essex County fire departments kept busy

A fire at a Harrow store has caused $20,000 in damage.

Essex Fire and Rescue said it happened at the Harrow Country Depot at 44 Sinasac Street near Queen Street Thursday morning. Fire officials said the blaze was contained to the furnace/electrical room. They added the cause of the fire was accidental.

Meanwhile, the Kingsville Fire Department is urging people to have working carbon monoxide (CO) and smoke alarms in their homes after a close call for a family this week. Firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide incident where extremely high levels of CO were found in a home at an undisclosed address. Fire officials said two people in the house had to be taken to the hospital.

They added CO alarms are mandatory but, more importantly, they save lives.
