An investigation into potential fraud at a Windsor car dealership has resulted in the arrest of three people.
Windsor police say officers in their Financial Crimes Unit (FCU) began looking into the possible swindle earlier this month at a dealership on Tecumseh Road E. The investigation found that a suspect used a fraudulent driver's licence to arrange the purchase of a vehicle and that multiple suspects were involved.
Officers learned that the delivery of the vehicle was scheduled to take place on February 14 and the transaction was to be completed then. In addition to the FCU, Windsor police's Property Crimes Unit and Emergency Response Unit awaited the suspect's arrival that evening. When the suspect arrived, they were taken into custody.
Police also found a vehicle associated with the suspect in the area and stopped it. Two people inside the vehicle were arrested as well.
All three suspects are from the Greater Toronto Area and have been charged with fraud over $5,000. Also, Isabel MacLellan, 18, of Toronto, is charged with two counts of uttering a forged document, identify fraud, identity theft and false pretences.
Also facing the fraud charge is Deandre Roache, 28, of Toronto; and Cynthia Leid, 31, of Brampton who also is charged with identity theft.
These charges have yet to be proven in court.
