If you live near Huron Church Road in Windsor or take that route to work, you might have to change your route starting April 1.
That is when the City of Windsor plans to tear it up for a total reconstruction.
"We're going to rip up the entire road surface including the curbs and sidewalks and replace it with brand new concrete pavement," said Director of Operations Dwayne Dawson. "Also, involves the installation of a new water main in that section and new traffic signals at all three intersections are affected; at Malden Road, at the Prince/Totten intersection and the Dorchester intersection."
First, crews will tear up the northbound lanes between Malden Road and Dorchester, and then they will set to work on the southbound lanes. The total project is expected to take three months, and during that time, traffic will be down to one lane in each direction.
Dawson said it could not be helped. The road is in bad shape right now.
"It's seen its useful life, and we've done a couple of mill and paves to replace the asphalt all on top, but it's just not the proper way to do it anymore. It needs to be completely reconstructed to fix that section," he said.
The total project will cost $5.5 million, but the province is kicking in a $3 million grant from the Connecting Links Fund.
