Fatal crash charge upgraded

A charge has been upgraded for the man accused of killing a Windsor woman in a Valentine's Day crash.

Karen Kelly, 69, died February 26, 12 days after the crash between a silver Cadillac and a white Chrysler sedan at George Avenue and Reginald Street on February 14.

Police said the driver of the Cadillac, 22-year-old Joseph Mallen of Windsor, is now charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. Mallen was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. He is also charged with public mischief, and obstructing justice. Police also alleged the suspect was intentionally attempting to mislead officers during the investigation.

Charges against a 20-year-old man from Windsor, who was originally arrested on February 15, were dropped in early March.
