Golf event to raise anticipation for CanAm Games

It may still be a few years away but a popular Windsor-Essex pastime will raise awareness this summer.

The City of Windsor announced Thursday that they are organizing the first annual Can-Am Golf Series, a fundraising event that will support the 2022 Can-Am Games, which will take place in Windsor.

The golf outing is set for June 17 at Roseland Golf and Curling Club.

Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island (TWEPI), said the golf event is an effort the Can-Am Games was looking for to help build anticipation for the actual 2022 games.

"'Where's the momentum going to be?' 'What's going to be the awareness and how are you building community support and engagement?'" Orr said were the questions the committee was asking. "I think that what they've come up with in this golf series is an excellent opportunity to do just that. It's an annual event."

Mayor Drew Dilkens agreed.

"This golf tournament really is a way for us to build excitement for the event, and to get people and the community involved," said Dilkens.

The cost of the golf outing is $200 per golfer before May 1 and $800 per foursome. After May 1, the price is raised to $225 and $900 respectively. The fee covers 18 holes of golf in a shotgun scramble format, electric golf cart, breakfast, lunch served on the course, a post-round cocktail event and barbecue, door prizes, a golfer gift and more. Complete information is available at the event's official website.

The CanAm Games will take place from July 25 to July 31, 2022. It will feature hundreds of police officers, firefighters, paramedics, customs agents and correctional officers from both Canada and the U.S. participating in 34 different sports.
