ERCA warns about attacking waves along Lake Erie shore

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) is advising that strong winds could be trouble for those living along the Lake Erie shoreline.

The ERCA said winds between 30-40 km/hr Wednesday night, Thursday, and Friday could cause attacking waves that damage breakwalls and erode the shore. However, a flood watch has not been issued.

"There is the possibility for existing poorly maintained and/or damaged breakwalls to be further damaged by this event," ERCA said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

The conservation authority said people should avoid the shoreline because waves overtopping breakwalls and shorelines can be extremely dangerous.

This advisory is in effect until noon on Friday.
