Pet parrot dies in west side house fire

An overnight fire in the city's west end has killed a pet parrot while leaving five people and two dogs without a place to live.

According to Windsor Fire Services, the blaze broke out around 12:40 a.m. Sunday at a residence on Donnelly Street, just north of Mill Street.

When crews arrived at the house, heavy fire was reported in the basement. It took firefighters just over an hour to get the flames under control.

Damage is estimated at $80,000 with no human injuries reported. The fire started in the basement although the exact cause is unknown at this time.
