Don't panic if your tap water is brown

Enwin Utilities is giving Windsor residents a heads up it will conduct its annual water system flushing program starting on Monday.

It said residents might notice the water is a little discoloured when it first comes out of the taps. It is not harmful and will clear up if you run the water for a couple of minutes.

The utility does not recommend doing your laundry between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. when it is flushing the system. The discolouration can damage clothes.

It also does not recommend running the hot tap during that period because that may draw discoloured water into your water heater.

Tecumseh Road bounds the affected area to the north, Division Road to the south, Howard Avenue to the west, and Riberdy Avenue to the east.

The flushing program for that area is expected to last until June 7, although the program for the entire city will go until October 4.

The Hydrant System Flushing Map is available on Enwin's website along with a schedule for different areas of the city.
