Update expected on Essex Fire Station No. 2

Town councillors in Essex will get an update on plans to build a new fire hall.

The fire station in Gesto is considered inadequate to meet the town's needs. The apparatus bays are too small. There is no place to store and decontaminate personal protective gear. It lacks a proper exhaust system, and there are no change rooms.

A consultant recommended moving it to North Malden Road and County Road 15, so the town has purchased three acres of land.

The new location is anticipated to provide better response times to Essex Centre. Response times to McGregor could improve by four or five minutes, and firefighters should be able to respond to rural fires easier.

The town has put aside $400,000 towards the cost of buying the land and building the new fire hall.
