Youth charged in weekend stabbing

Windsor police say a youth has been charged in connection with a stabbing over the weekend on the city's east side.

Officers were called to a home around 3:45 p.m. Sunday to find a child victim suffering from stab wounds. The victim was found in the company of relatives outside the home. The investigation uncovered the fact that the youth was injured inside the house by a relative who had fled the scene.

The victim was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to WPS public information officer Sergeant Steve Betteridge.

The youth, who left the scene, was found by police shortly after 4 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident. The youth is charged with one count of attempted murder. Due to the ages of the suspect and victim, names will not be released per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The location of the incident has not been made public.

The investigation is ongoing by the WPS Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information who has not already spoken with police is asked to call them at (519) 255-6700, ext, 4830, or submit their tip to Crime Stoppers.
