East Windsor off-road track on track for this fall

The City of Windsor is getting feedback on its off-road biking proposal and already there seems to be some clear cut favourites.

The city is looking to build the track either across from the WFCU Centre next to the pond, next to the Little River Sewage Plant, or at Little River Acres Park.

Project Manager Trevor Duquette said most people seem to be leaning toward a custom made asphalt track that incorporates certain features from the Mach 6, Sidewinder, Grand Prix, Speed Ring, and Triple Threat designs.

"Double jumps or triple jumps so maybe they can bypass a couple of bumps while they are doing the pump track," said Duquette.

Duquette said the location beside the Little River Sewage Plant seems to be the most popular.

"You have parking right beside it so it's a little easier to get to especially for EMS and any services that may be required," he added.

Duquette said a fibreglass design would allow the city to modify the track or move it to other spots when necessary but the public will ultimately guide the final decision.

"There's other good options with the modular fibreglass. We can change the track each year or move it to a different location like the waterfront to do special events," Duquette said.

Duquette said the Little River Corridor pump track should be ready for action this fall along with a pump track at Malden Park.

Work on the mountain bike trails at Malden Park should start in about two weeks while work on the east Windsor trails should begin in about a month.

The city held an open house at the WFCU Centre on Thursday evening.
