Body found in Detroit River identified

A body found last month in the Detroit River has been identified.

Windsor police Constable Talya Natyshak said Tuesday that the Windsor Police Service Major Crimes Division has identified the body as that of a 21-year-old man with ties to the Peel Region. The name of the victim has not been released.

The body had been found on July 22 off Lakeview Park Marina. Police believed at the time it was a man who had experienced distress while swimming in the channel near Peche Island.

Foul play is not suspected in the death.

Police would like to thank the public for their help in resolving this matter.  Tips from the public helped identify the victim.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
