Windsor police snag alleged purse snatcher

A Windsor man accused of snatching an elderly woman's purse has been snagged by Windsor police.

Police said the elderly victim was pushed to the ground from behind while she was walking on Curry Avenue between University Avenue and Riverside Drive in the middle of the afternoon on July 23.

She was not physically hurt.

"Through investigation, a suspect description was obtained, video surveillance was obtained, and subsequently officers from the Major Crimes Branch were able to identify the suspect," police said in a news release on Thursday afternoon.

Benjamin Trupish, 38, of Windsor was arrested on Wednesday in a vehicle in Windsor and was charged with robbery and breaching his bail conditions.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
