Shopping centre fire investigated in Windsor

A fire at a south Windsor shopping centre is being treated as suspicious.

Windsor police said officers were sent to the Yorktown Square shopping centre on Grand Marais Road West and Dominion Boulevard around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday after a suspicious fire was reported. Windsor Fire and Rescue was already on scene and the fire was out by the time police arrived, according to Constable Talya Natyshak.

There were no injuries but the fire had caused serious electrical damage to the shopping centre.

The WPS arson unit looked into the scene with Windsor fire investigators and determined that the fire was suspicious in nature. It is believed that the fire happened between 4 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, said Natyshak.

The fire had caused some businesses at Yorktown Square to be closed this week due to the loss of electrical power. All businesses are now open and operating as usual.

Anyone with information who has not already spoken with investigators is asked to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700 ext. 4330. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
