Serbu Tire fire deemed arson, Windsor man arrested

A Windsor man has been arrested in connection to a huge suspicious fire at a tire shop in Windsor.

The June 23 blaze at Serbu Tire on Howard Avenue near Hanna Street has now been deemed an arson by Windsor police. The building burned for several hours and thick black smoke could be seen as far as the city’s east end.

Damage was pegged at $500,000. The roof and the front wall of the building collapsed but there was no damage to nearby structures.

No injuries were reported.

James Kirby, 53, of Windsor, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with arson.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
