A campaign is underway to help Family Respite Services build a new respite home in Windsor.
The organization is hoping to raise $1.5-million through the "I'm IN" campaign. The money will go towards building a new home for its "Weekend with Friends" program, which offers overnight stays for children with developmental challenges.
"The I'm IN capital campaign has four components. It includes children, families, people who want to get involved, and people who want to invest," said Alexandria Fischer with Family Respite Services.
Fischer said their current space was not intended for a program like this.
"We need a home that is going to have a functional space within the kitchen, rec space, an accessible playground in the backyard, and we need a home that is going to accommodate the needs of children with various exceptionalities," said Fischer. "Our new design for this home is going to be a fabulous space, an accessible space for all children to be able to access."
The home will be located on Howard Avenue next to the home the organization currently operates. The organizers hope to have the new home operational by December 2020.
"We can't do this alone. We rely on each other. We rely on the community, and so, if we can all come together to make this dream home a reality, I know the families would appreciate the support," said Fischer.
So far, they have raised $500,000 toward the campaign.
