EnWin warns of 1-800 scam

Someone has been calling EnWin Utilities customers and telling them to call its legal department at a 1-800 number, but it's a scam.

The utility issued the alert Wednesday saying it does not have a 1-800 number, and would never contact customers and have them call the legal department for bill payment. It also said it would never ask for a credit card payment over the phone.

The scam uses a recording of EnWin's on-hold audio messages and displays portions of its phone numbers, so it appears legitimate.

EnWin has reported calls to the Windsor Police Service and asks any customer who receives one to call the utility at 519-255-2727 to report the attempted fraud.
