The fire in the home just south of Tecumseh Road West started around 10 p.m. Monday.
Nobody was hurt, but fire officials say the blaze caused $220,000 damage.
The cause was unattended cooking.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash confirmed they are aware of the criminal investigation, but said she couldn't provide much of a comment.
