The agri-industry of Windsor-Essex is now being supported by a new natural gas pipeline.
Enbridge announced Tuesday that its $105.7 million Kingsville Transmission Reinforcement Pipeline project is now complete and operational. Steven Jelich, Enbridge's gas director of southwest operations, said this project is crucial to the agriculture business in the southeast portion of the county.
"The Kingsville Transmission Reinforcement Pipeline project brings more natural gas to the fast-growing greenhouse market in the Leamington and Kingsville area, as well as provides affordable natural gas to residents and businesses in Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and surrounding areas," said Jelich. "We thank residents and landowners in the project area for their support during the construction process."
Not only will the pipeline provide natural gas support for the Kingsville and Leamington areas, but Ontario associate minister of energy Bill Walker said it will help business growth throughout southwestern Ontario.
"Our government understands the importance of expanding access to natural gas," said Walker. "Access to natural gas can make life more affordable for families, increase job creation and economic opportunities and sends the message that Ontario is open for business."
Construction on the 19-kilometre pipeline began in May and is now complete. The line stretches from Lakeshore to Kingsville. Crews will return in the spring of 2020 to complete the clean-up process and perform maintenance.
