High number of drug-related ER visits this weekend

There was an increase of non-opioid drug-related emergency department visits over the weekend.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit's surveillance and monitoring system identified 10 visits on Saturday and seven visits on Sunday.

Based on the latest data, no opioids were detected in any of the cases. Of the 10 drug and alcohol misuse cases on Saturday, there was one case involving methamphetamines.

The Windsor Essex Community Opioid and Substance Strategy continues to monitor these cases and is working to understand more about the increases. If you are aware of any linkages between these cases or other causes for these increases you are asked to contact the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
