Erie Shores Healthcare comes through for food bank

Another 152 families used Leamington's food bank last month, including more than 400 teens.

With donations few and far between, the food bank had to dip into its reserves from the Kettle Campaign this summer.

It serves 272 households in Leamington.

It help out, staff at Erie Shores Healthcare have been collecting cans over the past month. They've been challenging each other and other departments to see which one comes up with the most.

"I could not be more proud of our staff," said CEO Janice Dawson. "We're in the community, giving back to the families that have supported us over the years."

Thursday was the final day staff could bring in their canned and non-perishable food items.

The final tally was 2,613 cans and non-perishable food items, or 2,800 lbs for the Leamington Salvation Army.

To top off that donation, the Erie Shores Healthcare Spiritual Care Committee donated $1,500 to the drive.

The hospital now plans to make the food drive an annual tradition.
