Windsor cop arrested for theft

A Windsor Police Service officer has been arrested and charged with two counts of theft.

Windsor police began a theft investigation in December after getting a call about two separate shoplifting incidents at a business on Tecumseh Road East near Lauzon Parkway. One shoplifting offence took place on November 20, 2019, another took place on December 4, 2019.

Investigators identified a suspect as an actively serving Windsor police officer who was off-duty. On Saturday, December 21, 2019, Ronald Bercovici was arrested and charged with two counts of theft under $5,000.

Constable Bercovici has been with the Windsor Police Service for 20 years. The charges have not been proven in court. However, the involved officer has been assigned to administrative duties.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, 200 Chatham St. E, on February 4, 2020.
