LaSalle fire claims one life

Careless smoking is blamed for a fire in LaSalle on Christmas Eve that claimed the life of a man.

LaSalle Police confirm the body was found inside a home in the 2100 block of Todd Lane near Fifth Street December 24.

Firefighters arrived at the home just before 5 p.m.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal was called to report the fatality.

It ruled the fire accidental, and damage is expected to total $150,000.

No one else was hurt.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
