Spitfires triumph over Firebirds 5-2

The Windsor Spitfires defeated the Flint Firebirds 5-2 on Sunday.

Connor Corcoran kicked off the game for the Spitfires with a goal 10:14 into the first period. Evgeniy Oksentyuk scored a power play goal to tie up the game 12:14 into the frame. Cole Purboo broke that tie putting the Spitfires in the lead by one at 15:07.

Kyle McDonald extended that lead with a goal 15:57 into the second period.

The third period saw a goal from the Firebirds' Dennis Busby 3:25 into the third period. Wyatt Johnston responded with a goal for the Spitfires 8:25 into the frame. Windsor's Egor Afanasyev scored an empty-net goal 19:52 into the frame.

Windsor goalie Xavier Medina saved 42 out of 44 shots on net.

The Spitfires will face off against the Firebirds on Tuesday at the WFCU Centre. Puck drops at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
