Essex fire deemed suspicious

The Ontario Provincial Police are digging deeper into a fire in Essex that took place over the weekend.

It happened around 7 p.m. Saturday on Talbot Street South between Iler Avenue and Brien Avenue. Town of Essex firefighters from two stations worked to extinguish the fire at Studio B and Company, a hair salon.

No injuries were reported but the Ontario Fire Marshal was called in to investigate, and it was concluded that the fire was of a suspicious nature.

A fire at a structure on County Road 20 near Concession Road 3, which took place Friday, has since been declared accidental.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call the Essex County OPP Major Crime Unit at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
