Spitfires douse Firebirds 5-2

A strong first period led the Windsor Spitfires to a 5-2 victory over the Flint Firebirds on Tuesday.

Cole Purboo, Will Cuylle and Curtis Douglas scored back-to-back goals in the first frame to give the Spitfires a 3-0 lead heading into the second. The Firebirds scored their first goal of the night 4:52 into the second, but Egor Afanasyev responded for Windsor with a goal halfway through the period.

Flint scored again early in the third, but the Spitfires kept pushing them back with Tyler Angle scoring in the final 1:31 of the game.

Spitfires goaltender Xavier Medina made 28 saves out of 30 shots on net.

The Spitfires are back on the ice on Friday when they take on the Soo Greyhounds in Sault Ste. Marie at 7:07 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
