SIU investigating man's death

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 51-year-old man in Windsor Friday night.

According to a release on the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) website, Friday night around 8:30 p.m. a vehicle was reported stolen from the area of Ottawa Street and Gladstone Avenue.

A Windsor police officer located the vehicle and proceeded to follow it. In the area of Wyandotte Street and Church Street, the vehicle struck a parking sign.

Two occupants from the vehicle fled on foot, with the driver being arrested quickly. The passenger, a 51-year-old man, made his way to a rooming house on Pelissier Street where he went into medical distress.

An individual reported this, resulting in police and EMS attending the address. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem is set to take place Sunday in London.

Two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Anyone with information is asked to call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
