Spitfires fall to Firebirds 4-3 in OT

The Windsor Spitfires were narrowly defeated by the Flint Firebirds 4-3 in overtime on Saturday.

Evgeniy Oksentyuk scored the first goal for the Firebirds 12:49 into the first period. Luke Boka followed quickly with a goal 15:31 into the frame for the Spitfires, putting the game at a tie. Cody Morgan broke the tie to put the Firebirds in the lead.

Jake Durham extended that lead with a goal 2:37 into the second period. Jean-Luc Foudy followed with a goal for the Spitfires.

The Spitfires' Connor Corcoran scored 7:49 into the third period putting the game at another tie and forcing overtime.

Ty Dellandrea scored 3:05 into overtime giving the win to the Firebirds.

Windsor goalie Kari Piiroinen 29 out of 33 shots on net.

The Spitfires will face-off against the Kitchener Rangers on Sunday. Puck drops at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
