$25.5M of meth seized at Ambassador Bridge

Customs officials say it's the biggest methamphetamine seizure they've had in seven years.

A Mississauga man is charged after an estimated $25.5 million of suspected methamphetamine was seized at the Ambassador Bridge on Christmas Eve.

On December 24, a commercial truck entering Canada at the Ambassador Bridge was sent to secondary inspection where Canada Border Service Agents found nine containers filled with what they believed to be methamphetamine. Officials say about 200 kilograms of meth were seized.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police was called and officers arrested and charged Mohamed Ahmed Abdirahman, 36, from Mississauga with the importation of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

“This seizure demonstrates that border services officers are committed to protecting our borders and ensuring the security of Canadians. We work in partnership with the RCMP to prevent illegal activity at the border and to keep our communities safe from illicit drugs,” said Joe McMahon, district director with the CBSA.
