Shots fired in Amherstburg

Police are investigating after receiving a report of gunfire in Amherstburg.

The Windsor Police Service's Amherstburg detachment responded to the call about multiple shots being fired on Meloche Road near Simcoe Street, on Friday at around 6:40 p.m.

Officers were able to locate "the source of the gunfire" and said there is no threat to public safety.

Police have not confirmed if anyone has been injured as a result of the gunshots being fired.

No charges will be laid as a result of the incident, police said, but the Major Crimes unit has taken over the ongoing investigation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
