High winds prompt flood advisory

The local conservation authority has issued an advisory ahead of possible flooding along the Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and Detroit River shorelines.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority issued a flood outlook advisory on Wednesday due to forecasted wind speeds that are expected to reach 25-30 kilometres per hour and gusts up to 40 km/h. The high winds will increase the possibility of nearshore erosion, along with wave splashing and spray.

Areas of Leamington and Pelee Island along the Lake Erie shoreline make be impacted, along with areas along the Lake St. Clair and Detroit River shorelines.

Residents are urged to use extra caution and avoid areas where flooding is occurring, as slippery banks, waves, and fast-moving water can become dangerous.

Officials at the Essex Region Conservation Authority are continuing to monitor conditions and weather forecasts and updates will be provided if the situation worsens.
