(Blackburn News file photo)An elderly man is safe after inadvertently driving in the wrong direction on Highway 401 in Tecumseh Monday morning.
The Ontario Provincial Police responded to the call around 10 a.m. The driver was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Several officers converged on the area shutting down on-ramps as the vehicle was brought to a safe stop west of Manning Road.
The driver was taken to the Essex County OPP detachment where he was met by family members.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
