Spitfires edge 67's in shootout

The Ottawa 67's made a come back in the third period, but the Windsor Spitfires were able to secure a 3-2 victory in a shootout.

The Spits played the Ottawa 67's at TD Place on Sunday afternoon.

Windsor's Egor Afanasyev scored the first goal of the game with help from Tyler Angle in the first period.

Angle then went on to score the second goal for the Spits in a power play. Afanasyev and Cole Purboo got assists for the second-period goal.

However, the 67's came back in the third period with two goals in less than 40 seconds left of the game, forcing the two teams to go into overtime. The game then resulted in a shootout where Windsor's Will Cuylle scored the game-winning goal.

Kari Piiroinen was in net for the Spits and saved 34 of the 36 shots taken.

The Spitfires will be back on home ice at WFCU Centre when they play the Sarnia Sting on Tuesday. Puck drops is set for 7:05 p.m.
