Investigators probe Windsor factory fire

Windsor Fire and Rescue is working to find the cause of a blaze at a former plant near downtown.

Fire broke out around 10 a.m. Friday at the former Chromeshield building on McDougall Street near Elliott Street East. The blaze produced heavy smoke and flames and resulted in crews switching to a defensive attack.

Firefighters were eventually able to move to an interior operation, with the fire finally declared out three hours after the alarm was raised.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. A fire investigator is currently working to determine the cause and a damage estimate.
