OPP arrest man following Tecumseh incident

A 34-year-old man has been arrested after a police situation over the weekend in Tecumseh.

The Ontario Provincial Police initially responded to a report of a suspicious rental truck around 10 a.m. Sunday. According to Constable Jim Root, the truck was believed to have been involved in the theft of a motorcycle.

Officers spotted the truck on County Road 22 but could not get the vehicle to stop. The truck continued westbound and was later stopped in the area of Riverside Drive East and Manning Road.

One man, who has not been identified, was arrested. A second individual has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

OPP advised residents on Twitter Sunday that officers would be in the area to conduct an “ongoing investigation”. The OPP announced the area was cleared around 2 p.m.

Members of the OPP's Emergency Response Unit and K-9 Unit were on scene, but Root said at no time was public safety ever an issue.
