The owners of a former downtown Windsor cannabis lounge have said they have not applied for a physical pot store licence.
In a media release sent out Friday, Higher Limits co-owner Jon Liedtke sought to clear up confusion with a similar-sounding company that has filed applications to open pot stores in Essex County and Chatham-Kent.
"It has been brought to the attention of the owners of Higher Limits, repeatedly over the past number of weeks, by prior patrons, members of the community, and multiple media outlets alike, that Higher Limits Cannabis Company submitted to the AGCO applications for three cannabis retail stores in Amherstburg, Blenheim and Chatham," wrote Liedtke.
Liedtke pointed out that the Windsor-based Higher Limits is not affiliated in any way with Higher Limits Cannabis Company.
BlackburnNewsWindsor.com did confirm with the AGCO that Higher Limits Cannabis Company has an application undergoing public notice for a cannabis store in Blenheim, and another in Amherstburg.
Higher Limits operated the cannabis lounge on Ouellette Avenue in Windsor from 2015 until it closed in January 2019 due to changes in the Smoke Free Ontario Act regarding cannabis consumption. The company has shifted its focus to planning public events with a cannabis-related scope.
The company had booked adult film star Stormy Daniels, known for her role in legal issues involving U.S. President Donald Trump, for her only Canadian appearance in June 2018. It was cancelled because of those legal difficulties.
