Greater Essex ETFO president retiring

After 12 years at the helm of the Greater Essex local of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, Adelina Cecchin is retiring.

Her retirement is effective at the end of the month.

Cecchin was first elected local president in 2008. She was the first vice-president for two years before that, after spending 16 years as a teacher in the Greater Essex County District School Board. She has been a member of the province union executive since 2009.

Talks between the local and the school board on a contract agreement are ongoing. The union reached a deal with the province earlier this year which was ratified by the overwhelming majority of members.

Cecchin admitted she did not intend to retire so soon, but undisclosed personal reasons hastened her departure.

The local executive has not approved an interim president, but Mario Spagnuolo is the current first vice-president.
