Overheated laptop battery blamed for apartment fire

Damage is pegged at around $50,000 after a fire broke out at a west Windsor apartment building.

The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service said on Friday evening at approximately 8:30 p.m., firefighters responded to the apartment building on Donnelly Street near Mill Street after the blaze started in a fourth-floor unit.

No one was injured but a cat perished in the fire. One person is displaced.

Fire officials said the fire was caused by a laptop battery that had overheated.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
