Lakeshore council closes West Beach

Effective immediately, West Beach in Belle River is closed after an order by municipal council.

Council voted to close the beach after seeing a dramatic increase in the number of visitors at the public beach.

“The West Beach is a popular destination on Lake St. Clair” stated Mayor Tom Bain. “We recognize that many of our residents and families enjoy visiting the beach but, unfortunately, the large number of people creates significant concerns.”

Boaters coming from the lakeside are also being asked to stop bringing their boats to the beach as well.

In addition to health concerns due to COVID-19, councillors also raised concerns because the Windsor Essex County Health Unit is not conducting weekly water testing for the presence of E.Coli during the 2020 season.
