Cop, motorcyclist injured in downtown Windsor collision

A Windsor police officer is one of two people hurt after an overnight crash in the downtown core.

Police said it happened around midnight on Wednesday in the area of Wyandotte Street East and McDougall Avenue. The Windsor officer, who was on-duty and riding a bicycle, collided with a motorcycle.

Both the officer and motorcyclist were assessed for injuries at a nearby hospital.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified and it has invoked its mandate. As a result, Windsor police will not provide additional information.

The SIU has assigned three investigators, two forensic investigators and a Collision Reconstructionist to the case.

A section of Wyandotte Street East between Goyeau Street and Glengarry Avenue was closed throughout the night and into Wednesday morning so investigators could look into how the collision took place.

Anyone with information who has not already spoken with police is asked to call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529 or submit an online tip.
