UPDATE: Flood warning issued by Essex Region Conservation Authority

The Essex Region Conservation Authority issued a flood warning Friday because of heavy rainfall across the region.

The Turkey Creek watershed which includes the Grand Marais Drain through the City of Windsor has exceeded 100 mm (4 inches) of rainfall today. Turkey Creek has swelled and is bank-full in some locations through LaSalle.  The Town of LaSalle has closed a portion of Front Road due to flooding.

Watercourses are expected to swell and spill onto low-lying areas Friday. There could also be flooding in areas with poor drainage.

The forecast suggests heavy rainfall could continue for the remainder of the day and overnight.

With stronger winds, wave topping could be a problem along Leamington, Kingsville, and Amherstburg's shores. Residents on Pelee Island could see some splashing along the western shoreline. The waves could increase erosion along those shorelines.

The long-term flood watch for Essex County also remains in effect until September 1.
