Man charged in human trafficking investigation

A London man is facing human trafficking charges after an investigation by Windsor police.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, Windsor police were called to the area of Ouellette Avenue and Eugenie Street for a report of a woman believed to be a victim of human trafficking.

Through their investigation, Windsor police officers determined the victim was trafficked in other parts of Ontario. She was taken to the hospital for a medical assessment and put in contact with community partners to assist with recovery.

Police identified a suspect and made an arrest at a nearby hotel.

Audley Crooks, 37, of London is charged with sexual assault, uttering threats, trafficking a person by exercising control, material benefit from human trafficking, and advertising another person's sexual services. None of the charges have been proven in court.

The investigation is ongoing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
